Dear Liberty,
Tonight I spoke with the Convention of States chapter for Mineral and Hampshire counties. These are amazing patriots. While most groups over the last 10-15 years have been advocating on how to best spend our hard earned money at the federal level these brave folks have been fighting for limited government. I believe they are the final wall between where we are and revolution.
I commended them on their sacrifices. The people in this organization have given up a lot of time with their family and friends over the years to reach out to ordinary citizens about freedom and limiting our tyrannical government. Then these same brave folks have petitioned the very people who have been the problem to decide to limit their own careers in government. There of course was and continues to be much resistance to the COS. People in power will never voluntarily give up the benefits of their offices.
I started to understand this and many of those I looked up to have shown their true colors. When a "good" elected official is in the 3rd of 4th term in congress how can they keep in touch with the common man? Many elected officials have never worked a real job a day in their life. If someone hasn't had to balance a budget or fear not having enough to pay their bills and feed their children how can they possibly understand what so many Americans experience each month?
I showed a great clip from the History Channel's "Son's of Liberty" 3 part show from 2015. I spoke about how the federal government see's us as nothing today. That we are mere servants and peasants that pay taxes for the powerful to spend the way they see fit.
As I was sitting here writing my wife and daughter turned on the Boy in the Striped Pajama's. If you haven't seen it you should. It is a ww2 based movie about a concentration camp and the family of the commandant. I spent the next few minutes trying to talk to my 11 year old about the evils of communism and the nazis. It is hard enough for me to handle some of these movies
Then we turned no an old show "Boy Meets World." And wouldn't you know it the episode was about saying the Pledge of Allegiance. The young kids couldn't articulate at all the importance of that short paragraph but how ironic that this is an issue in many classrooms today. This brief paragraph is worth all the blood that has been spilt in the name of freedom. It unites us in the concept that we are all equal and serve no master except God and that we desire to live in a country where the rule of law keeps everyone free. I just spend 20 minutes explaining to my daughter about the amazing blessing to have our Pledge and freedom. It is hard for children to understand tyranny and get the idea that the rest of the world doesn't have the freedoms we have and that most of human kind throughout all of history has lived under slavery. It seems to unreal for children to think that people can be that bad towards another person.
I've started watching the HBO show "John Adams." It really makes one appreciate the great leaders we had in our founding of the country. I can only hope to have the courage that these great men and women showed to fight for liberty.
